Jessica Cosmetics It's A Girl Thing Collection Spring 2013

Today I have the Jessica Cosmetics It's A Girl Thing Collection! This Spring collection is a bit different from the all the pastel collections I've been seeing for the spring, so it's a nice change of pace!

Jessica Cosmetics says the collection "celebrates girl power and girl fun" and features 6 polishes: Sun-Kissed Beauty, True Blue, Smitten Kitten, Sterling Queen, New Kid in Town and Ruby Empress.

Nadia/ Sterling Queen

Coat 1:
Coat 2:

Nadia is a pearly grey. I don't tend to love a pearl finish, but I feel it works for Nadia, and while it might not be my first polish to grab, I would wear it again. The formula was smooth and I used 2 coats for full coverage.

Ava/New Kid in Town
Coat 1:

Coat 2:

Ava is a lavender with a very slight shimmer. I barely noticed the shimmer and would consider it more of a creme, but the shimmer is apparent in some lighting. The formula was a bit thicker and again I only needed 2 coats for full coverage.

Sophia/True Blue
Coat 1:

Coat 2:

Sophia is a medium blue with almost a hint of periwinkle. Again, Sophia has a slight shimmer, but it is not very noticeable. The formula was a bit harder to work with than other polishes in this collection, but I still used 2 coats, although another coat may have made things a bit more even.

Amira/Smitten Kitten
Coat 1:

Amira is a bright medium pink, with a slight shimmer. Amira is a very girly color and definitely stands out to me. I used 1 coat for full coverage. I love Amira, but tend to stay away from bright pinks (although I am not sure why!)

Alia/Sun-Kissed Beauty
 Coat 1:
 Coat 2:

Alia is a strong medium orange with a very slight shimmer. I like the brightness of this orange, I fell in love with oranges like this over the summer, and will probably use Alia a lot over the summer, but it is a bit bright for me right now! The formula was smooth and covered in 2 coats.

Alexis/Ruby Empress
Coat 1:

Alexis is a bright red-orange, I do warn you that this picture is not incredibly color accurate (So sorry, my camera hates these kinds of reds) and Alexis is slightly redder in person. I used 1 coat for full coverage, and the formula was smooth again!  Alexis was pretty similar to Alia and I felt another color (maybe a green!) would've made the collection a bit more varied.

Overall, I was slightly underwhelmed by this collection. The formula was pretty good overall, but the colors did not seem very unique to me. I did appreciate a Spring collection that wasn't pastel though. Sophia was probably my favorite from the collection, and may make its way into future nail art!

    1. swatching on two fingers has become a bit more of a common practice! because I swatch per coat, I do not have the time for a full mani, I think the swatches still allow you to get an idea of the polish. I still have a full mani for nail art though!
